Training and Journal Club
Members participate in a joint science journal club with biological sciences graduate students and faculty. In the Plant Sciences journal club, current literature in plant pathology, physiology and biochemistry is discussed.
The GSA arranges professional and scientific development opportunities for its members.
Here are several examples of subjects addressed in past training events:

Trips
In association with some APS Annual Meetings, the GSA arranges trips to universities, plant health companies, and other sites.
Seminar Speakers
Since 2009, the GSA members nominate, select and host a speaker during the Spring Department of Plant Pathology and Crop Physiology Seminar Series. The GSA selects leaders in plant pathology or crop physiology to visit for 2 days so we can learn more about their professional and research experiences. Our guest speakers include: Drs. Duroy Navarre, Joyce Loper, Brett Tyler, Krishna Subbarao, Brian Staskawicz, Glen Hartman, Jan Leach, Xinnian Dong and Niklaus Grünwald. In addition to the graduate student invited guests, we have lunch with other guests to our departmental seminars to ask for career and research advise.

Scholarships
With money from dues, fundraisers, and donations, the GSA provides scholarships to members for travel to educational meetings. See the “Scholarships” tab for more information.
